What is a DAR?
A DAR (Designated Airworthiness Representative) is a private citizen who has extensive experience in aviation, has received special training from FAA, and has been delegated the authority to perform certain FAA mandated functions and services.  An FAA Aviation Safety Inspector (an FAA employee) can provide these services as well.  However, because of FAA’s budget constraints, employee availability and workloads, most of these services are now delegated to DAR’s.
FAA has assigned every DAR to a specific geographic area.  Paul Mather has his home base in Mobile, AL and can service the Gulf Coast areas and certain areas of Florida.  For those who do not live near the Mobile, AL area and wish to certify an E-AB, it is recommended that they contact a DAR in their area.  However, since there are a limited number of DAR’s authorized to certificate E-LSA’s and S-LSA’s, the FAA allows Paul L Mather to perform certain certification services outside of his assigned geographical area.
If you have an aircraft that needs to be certified, call or email Paul as early as possible.  He will be glad to assist you in navigating though the certification process.  Paul will be glad to answer your questions.
